当会慰霊碑群が所在する同村では、3代にわたり維持管理に勤めてくださっており、慰霊式典はもとより戦没者遺骨を荼毘に付すための場所としても、快く提供していただいております。

 

こうした熱心でご理解のある現地協力者がいるからこそ、日本の戦没者の慰霊と遺骨収容活動が成り立っています。

【 Clean-up at Kakabona Village Memorials 】

 

On Thursday, September 4, our Logistics Officer in Guadalcanal, Mr. Mato Mui Liliau, who is also the village Captain of Kakabona, kindly carried out maintenance around the memorial monuments in his village.

The people of Kakabona have been looking after these monuments for three generations. They not only host our memorial services, but also offer the site for the cremation of remains of the war dead with great kindness.

 

It is thanks to such warm-hearted and understanding local friends that Japan’s memorial and remains recovery activities can continue.
